The origin of the Fattoush salad
Before getting to the heart of the matter, it’s important to point out that fattoush salad is not like all regular salad dishes. It contains in it an unparalleled originality with a Levantine touch. In its etymology, the word “fattoush” comes from the Arabic word “fatt” which means to crush. It is followed by a suffix “- ûsh” from Levant Arabic. It is a salad dish made with purslane, sumac, onion, radish, green salad, tomato and cucumber. All of its ingredients result in a slightly tangy dish, an explosion of taste that really makes the tasting unique.
The preparation of the Fattoush salad
To prepare the fattoush salad, you first need to take the tomatoes, cut them into 4 parts and make a small dice of the onion. Be sure to make an identical cut for aesthetic reasons and for the comfort of the palate. Then cut the parsley into small pieces, then cut the mint leaf with a kitchen chisel or large size knife. Finally, give the lettuce a slice 3 to 4 cm wide and slice the cucumber into thin slices, without removing the skin. Once all the vegetables are prepared, put them in a container of your choice, but a salad bowl is recommended. Drizzle with the vinaigrette made from sumac, crushed garlic clove, salt and pepper. To finish the dish, don’t forget to add chunky pita bread to the salad and toss them gently to avoid crumbling the salad. To have a crunchy sensation, put a few slices of pita bread in the oven at a temperature of 200 ° C. Be sure to watch the cooking carefully, as they should be removed as soon as they start to have a golden color.
In order to be healthy and in good shape, it is important to eat vegetables regularly, as they are said to be low in calories but rich in nutrients. Eating vegetables provides us with many types of vitamins and minerals, as well as a source of vitamin C. They also help our bodies digestion and hydration. That’s why fattoush salad is both healthy and tasty.
